Its main goal is to identify, evaluate, understand, and prevent adverse effects that may arise during the use of drugs. It is important to highlight that even medications that have undergone rigorous research and production processes may cause adverse events. Therefore, pharmacovigilance involves multiple stakeholders: the physician prescribing treatments, the pharmaceutical industry developing them, the health authorities regulating them, and the patients using them. What is an adverse event?
An adverse event is definedas any unwanted occurrence experienced by a patient while receiving a medication.
